Tally the robot, a shelf-management robot used in some grocery stores, will expand to more ShopRites.

Wakefern Food Corporation, the parent company of ShopRite, piloted Tally in 20 ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey before announcing the expansion of the technology throughout more of the supermarkets’ stores.

“After a highly productive pilot, the stores were able to leverage Simbe’s real-time insights to meaningfully reduce out-of-stock rates, maximizing inventory availability and exceeding industry standards,” Wakefern said in its press release.

It has not yet been announced which additional ShopRite stores will feature the robot.

Tally, considered to be the world’s first technologically advanced inventory robot, travels around the store while collecting shelf data to ensure products are stocked, shelved and priced correctly. This frees up time for store associates to focus more on the customer experience.

According to Simbe, Tally’s parent company, the robot can scan entire stores up to three times a day while processing 15,000 to 30,000 products per hour, all while working alongside store employees and blending in so as not to disturb customers.

Tally is already in use nationwide at other retailers such as BJ’s Wholesale Club and Giant Eagle.
